Visiting Leith and the Shore during construction

While improvements will benefit businesses, it’s inevitable that any work will cause disruption and noise.

p

We do what we can to work with businesses to minimise disruption and encourage the local community to keep supporting them. Businesses can find out about a range of support available during major construction works on our business support guide.

Visiting Leith and the Shore

We know that Leith and the Shore is a popular choice for Edinburgh residents with its wide range of places to eat, drink or shop.

While work is ongoing, we encourage you to continue to visit and support your local businesses which have such a vital role in the local community.

If you are heading to the area from elsewhere in the city, please plan ahead. Once the new route from Great Junction Street to the Shore is finished, it will be much easier for everyone to visit whether they choose to walk, wheel, cycle or take the bus or tram.

Bus and tram

You can get the 16, 34, 35 and 36 buses to the Shore.

The Trams run every 7 minutes between the Airport and Newhaven and there is a stop at the Shore.

Plan your trip:

Parking

While we want to encourage more people to choose public transport, walking or cycling, we know that some of you do need a car to get around.

Recent changes to parking in the area have provided more parking for people with disabilities. Anyone with a blue badge can park in pay and display and shared bays and also single and double yellow lines under certain conditions.

Find out more about where you can park if you have a blue badge.

While the Shore itself has limited parking, making it a more pleasant area to walk around, there is parking in nearby streets within a short walk of the Shore.

You can find full details on parking spaces on our  and this map shows the areas for paid and shared use parking.

Walking, wheeling and cycling

You can easily get to Leith and the Shore from all directions including the North Edinburgh Path Network and other routes on our city’s Quiet Route network. From the city centre you can cycle down Leith Walk using the segregated cycle tracks.

You can find details of cycle parking locations.
