Leith Connections

About the project

We have been changing streets in Leith with new community spaces and making it more comfortable for anyone walking, wheeling or cycling. This work provides better connections to

  • Leith Walk
  • the North Edinburgh Path Network
  • the Water of Leith path
  • Quiet Route 10 (Leith to Portobello)
  • Seafield Road shared use path to Portobello
  • the new tram stops at Foot of the Walk and the Shore
  • existing bus services.

Why we have been making these improvements

Residents told us about issues with traffic levels and speeds on some streets.

We developed these plans to reduce non-residential traffic and build new walking, wheeling and cycling routes.

This work

  • makes the area more pleasant to live in and around
  • improves streets and make roads safer for everyone
  • creates a more attractive environment with new public spaces
  • improves access to local facilities for anyone walking, wheeling or cycling
  • improves access to local facilities for those who really need to use their cars
