Wester Hailes High School redevelopment
In December 2020, the Scottish Government announced funding for a replacement of Wester Hailes High School. The new school will be delivered on its current site by late 2025 and will be built to highly energy-efficient ‘Passivhaus’ standard. The new buildings will replace all learning and teaching elements of the school.
The redevelopment of the school offers the opportunity to improve its connection to the Union Canal, and to improve access routes to the school campus. Also, opportunities to expand the school roll through new housing development within Wester Hailes will be a fundamental part of the regeneration of the area.
Some initial phase 1 works are currently being carried out on the school campus. These include the provision of a full-size, floodlit all-weather sports pitch which is complete, and improvements to the sports and community block. These improvements will also enhance
- pupil changing facilities
- dining facilities
- school administration areas
- other asset improvements.
