How to use our charging points

Using our 7kW and 22 kW charging points

  • Before connecting the cable, check that all windows and doors are closed.
  • Plug the cable into your vehicle before you plug it into the charging unit.
  • To start charging 
    • hold your ChargePlace Scotland RFID card on the card reader
    • if you are using the mobile app, use the charge point ID to locate the unit and follow the on-screen instructions
    • if you are using webpay.chargeplacescotland.org, use the charge point ID to locate the unit and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Select the charging socket on the unit, app or webpay screen.
  • Next plug your charging cable into the unit, pushing it gently but firmly into the socket.
  • Charging should start automatically and your vehicle will show charging status (depending on the type of vehicle you have).
  • To stop charging and end the session
    • place your ChargePlace Scotland RFID card on the card reader
    • if you are using the mobile app or webpay follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Wait until the unit indicates it is ready to disconnect the cable and then disconnect. Please do not pull out the cable before the unit is ready.
  • For Circontrol/E-Volt units, remove the cable from the charger first and then from your vehicle. For other charging units, please remove the cable from the vehicle first and then from the charger.
  • If the cable becomes stuck, cycle the central locking with your keys to release it. Your vehicle may also have a release catch or button.

Using our 50 kW rapid charging points

You can use the BP Pulse 50 kW rapid charger as a guest with a credit or debit card, but we would recommend you create a ChargePlace Scotland account.

  • Before connecting the cable, check that all windows and doors are closed.
  • To start charging
    • hold your ChargePlace Scotland RFID card to reader until the unit beeps or shows the card acceptance screen
    • if you are using the app or webpay.chargeplacescotland.org use the charge point ID to locate the unit and follow the on-screen instructions
    • If you are using the BP Pulse 50 kW rapid charger you can select ‘Member’ on the screen to use a ChargePlace Scotland RFID card, or ‘Guest’ to use a contactless bank card payment.
  • Select the connector type for your vehicle - CCS, Chademo, Rapid AC - and connect the cable to your vehicle.
  • Once the unit has run its safety checks, the light status will change and charging will automatically start and the connector will lock into the vehicle.
  • To stop charging and end the session
    • place your ChargePlace Scotland RFID card on the card reader
    • use mobile app or webpay and follow the on-screen instructions
  • The session will either stop automatically or prompt you to press a further stop button on the screen to end the charge.
  • Wait until the unit indicates it is ready to disconnect the cable and then disconnect. Please do not pull out the cable before the unit is ready.
