A plaque for the Melville monument - Petitions (Closed)

Petition details
Henry Dundas, Viscount Melville, was known in his day as "the Great Tyrant". As Home Secretary, he ensured the transatlantic slave trade was allowed to continue; he used Black Watch troops to enforce the Highland Clearances, and he crushed movements for democracy.
Dundas has one of Edinburgh's largest statues; in the middle of St Andrew Square. But there is no plaque on the monument explaining who he is. We ask that the city add one, acknowledging the full brutality of what he did.
