Work out your care home charge

If you have more than £35,000

You can choose which care home you want to go to, as long as they have a vacancy.

You need to work out how long you will be able to afford to stay in the home. You may wish to speak to a financial advisor. The care home will discuss this with you. Some homes need you to show that you have enough money to cover 3 to 5 years of payments.

The care home ask you to sign a written agreement agreeing to pay the charges. The charges you pay are more expensive than the amount than we would pay.

Free personal and nursing care

We pay the free personal and nursing care contributions to the care home.

Payment of free personal care and nursing care begins from the date of assessment. We complete assessments as quickly as possible. If you experience a delay you may ask to have the payment backdated. We only backdate payments in exceptional circumstances and consider requests on a case-by-case basis.

Change in your finances

When the total value of your savings and investments is approaching £35,000 you must ask for a review and you may have to reconsider your options.
